While there are many temporary and long–term consequences of sin (loss of peace and joy, punishment, conflict, destroyed relationships, stress, guilt, imprisonment, etc.), the one that we will focus on here is the consequence that will last for all eternity; separation from God in a place of torment called Hell.
The Bible states that “The wages of sin is death...” (Romans 6:23 NKJV™), and in Revelation 20:11–14 we discover that the “death” spoken of in Romans 6:23 is not just physical death, but also eternal death in the lake of fire.
While this “everlasting fire” (Matthew 25:41 NKJV™) was initially designed by God to be the ultimate punishment for the devil and his wicked angel–followers, it will also be the final destination of those who reject God’s gift of eternal life which is offered free to all because of the sacrificial death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
“For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.” (1 Peter 2:25 NKJV™)
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 NKJV™)
