The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead and is equal in every way with God the Father and God the Son (Matt 28:19–20). He has intellect (1 Corinthians 2:10–13), will (1 Corinthians 12:11), emotions (Acts 9:31; Galatians 5:22–23), and very unique ministry roles that He fulfills in the life of both believers and non–believers.

One of His primary roles is to help people come to a true undestanding of who Jesus is (John 15:26; 1 Corinthians 12:3) and why they need to believe on Him as their only Savior from sin (John 14:6; 2 Corinthians 5:21).

He also serves as the believer’s teacher (John 14:26; 1 Corinthians 2:9–14), illuminates the minds of both believers and unbelievers so that they are able to recognize and receive truth (John 16:13), and brings conviction into the lives of those who in thought, word or deed are violating God’s holy character and⁄or commands (John 16:8–11).

The Holy Spirit empowers the believer to resist sin and temptation (Romans 8:13; Galatians 5:16–18), produces God–honoring fruit in the lives of those who yield themselves to His control (Galatians 5:22–25), and enables God’s children to use their spiritual gifts and natural abilities to build up the body of Christ and bring glory to God (1 Corinthians 12:4–7; Philippians 2:1–4).
