Jesus is God the Son. For a full description of His divine qualities, read the section above entitled “How does the Bible describe God.”

Since God is a Spirit (and spirits cannot die), Jesus left heaven some 2,000 years ago, came down to earth and took on human flesh so that He could live among those He had created and ultimately die in their place, paying in full the sin–debt of all mankind: because He loves us.

Jesus was conceived in the womb of a virgin by the power of the Holy Spirit, enabling Him to be 100 percent God and 100 percent man, free from the sin nature that a human father would have passed onto Him. As a man, He was able to fulfill all the requirements of God’s law by living a perfect, sinless life; and in so doing, He qualified Himself as the only adequate substitute for the lost souls of men: because He loves us.

Jesus voluntarily died on a Cross, willingly bearing the sins of the entire world and taking the full force of God’s righteous wrath, thus completely satisfying God’s judicial requirements against sin: because He loves us.

After He died on that cruel cross, Jesus was buried in a tomb. But after being in the grave for three days, He came back to life, just as He had promised He would, proving that He was indeed God (He had the power to raise Himself from the dead!) and that God’s requirements for the punishment of sin had been fully met: because He loves us.

After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to hundreds of people over the course of forty days, verifying that He truly was alive. Then, after giving special instructions to His disciples, He physically ascended up to heaven, and there, to this very day, He intercedes on behalf of His followers before His Father’s throne: because He loves us.

Jesus is the only Savior available to mankind for the forgiveness of sin. Through faith in Jesus alone is it possible for an individual to be saved from the just, deserved, eternal wrath of God and be brought into a loving, peaceful relationship with their Creator. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 NKJV™). “For He made Him [Jesus] who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV™). Jesus willingly took our sins upon Himself and bore our punishment, and now offers to place His perfect righteousness on our personal account if we just humbly receive this priceless gift: because He loves us.
